 Dualit Limited, based in West Sussex, is a
manufacturer of high quality commercial and
domestic catering equipment. To meet the
increasing demand for their products, Dualit
Limited moved to a modern purpose built factory
unit. With continued growth,
it became apparent that supplementary floor
space would be required to meet the additional
storage and distribution needs of the company.
The majority of the available floor space was
already occupied, so the only option was to
consider a mezzanine floor.
Metalrax was nominated to design, supply
and install a free-standing mezzanine floor
which would be constructed over the existing
product assembly area. Careful consideration
had to be given to the position of the support
columns. By varying the column grid, the
position of the existing assembly benches and
associated machinery was maintained.
Dualit Limited were careful to think about
their
staff’s working environment. To ensure that
conditions in the assembly area were not

adversely affected, air handling and appropriate
lighting was installed. Metalrax worked in close
collaboration with the other contractors to
ensure that the depth of the floor was sufficient
to accommodate all the necessary air
movement trunking and electrical cable runs.
Dualit Limited could not afford to suspend
their production schedule, so the mezzanine
could not be built during normal working hours.
After Dualit Limited’s personnel clocked off, the
Metalrax fitters would arrive on site and work
through the night. Before departing in the
morning, the installers would ensure that areas
of the mezzanine, built during the night, were left
safe and tidy prior to the Dualit Limited
assembly operation opening for business.
By working in close co-operation with the
client and the other contractors, Metalrax were
able to ensure that the project was completed
on time, to the required specification, and with
the minimum disruption to Dualit Limited’s
production operations. |
